I'm the boy who loves everything
by Clive Medcalf (2012)
A short (and often considered controversial) video created by Clive Medcalf and shown at the Embrace Connect Conference in Leicester during 2012. This version used two screens and presents a unedited section of his performance (with video manipulation) followed by a edited conclusion which utilises the rhythmic scheme of his work to provide a clearly defined structure. Although Clive has no knowledge of this, his performance has a great similarity to a work by Pipilotti Rist entitled 'I'm not the girl who misses much ' (1986).
Clive was improvising to create this performance so that other members of Random Line Media could practice using the manual focuss of the video camera to create real time effects. The focus of the group activity was therefore upon camera technique rather than performance. Although he was deliberatley expressing himself in a idiosyncratic manner the nature of the performance and vocal material are very much within Clive's natural performance style. By default he has provided a window into another world that Rist could not enter. In this case who is the real artist?
A full version of this performance is available from Random Line.
